Technology Make us More Alone!! It does

We are becoming alone day after day, is Technology the reason? Technology has become our closest friend and yes it is really true that technology make us more alone. You might be shocked, but you will agree once you end up readin this article.

Just look around you and you will realise that technology is all around you. We are literally surrounded by technology and no matter where you go or at what place you are; you will always find technology at your side. There is no doubt in the fact that technology has completely changed our life. We have reached to the moons, we can contact people sitting at another part of the earth and what not. Apart from making our life easier, another major advantage of technology is that it helps us to stay in contact.

Thanks to the Social Media, Smartphones and Internet that we can talk to our loved ones whenever we want and from wherever we want. From Orkut to Facebook and from Apple iPhone 3 to Apple iPhone 6S, we have come to a long distance. Technology is there to make us feel good, satisfied and close to our friends and family but, the reality is far from it. Technology is taking us far very far from our friends and family. With an increase in the use of technology, things are changing at a rapid speed and we do not even realize it.

The main aim of the technology is to save us time and efforts but, slowly and slowly we are becoming addict to it. Instead of saving the time, it is helping us in passing time and to be more precise, wasting time. Not only this, the same technology which was making us connected to our loved ones is now turning to be the cause of loneliness.

How is Technology making us Alone?

You must be confused, as the technology which is bringing you closer to your friends and family is being acused of your loneliness. Well, Let’s take the simple example of a simple Mobile Phone. It would not be an exaggeration to say that we spend more time in front of our mobile phone screens rather than with our family. Be it a family lunch, friends get together or a causal meet up, we try to find out time to focus more on mobile then the conversation. We are focusing more on talking to strangers who are sitting at thousand miles of distance and less on our old friend who is sitting in just front of us. What is the first thing you do after you get up in the morning and the last thing before you go to sleep? Yes, you check your smartphones.

If smartphones were not enough, now we have VR Gear. Virtual Reality or popularly known as VR allows you to see the world through different eyes. Just by sitting at home, you can enjoy the views of Himalayas. It does look fascinating the other side of this coin is not so bright. At one place, you can plan a holiday with your family and watch a movie and at the second place you can just watch it in VR.

Recently at an event of Samsung VR Gear, all the audiences were wearing the VR Gear and they didn’t even realize that Mark Zuckerberg just passed by them. VR Gear will take us one step ahead towards loneliness, as one using it will not even realize what is happening beside him. Indeed, technology make us more alone!

When TV was invented, it was meant for the purpose of entertainment. If you go back for about 5-6 years, watching TV was a family event. TV was watched at the time of dinner only and with the complete family. But, now-a-days it has literally turned into an idiot box which hangs in every room of our house. You cannot deny the fact that you spend more time watching TV alone in your room rather than spending time with your siblings, friends or family in a common room.

The most crucial of all these is Video Game. Thanks to the Technology again, now we have such high-end graphics game which feels almost real. Just add the pinch of VR into it and bang, you can even play tennis at Home. Ask yourself, when was the last time when you went outside to play a game with your friend. The answer would be a long time ago. The reason behind this is that technology has made us so lazy that we prefer playing Cricket on our Xbox but, not on the ground.

Air conditioners have become a basic necessity and now who wants the fresh air in the summers. AC’s are enough to make our rooms pretty cool in summers. Tech slaves we have become…. Well, yes! Technology make us more alone!

Social Media is currently one of the hottest things to talk about. Everyone is on Social Media posting and sharing their time to time activity. Instead of thanking our mom for food, we try to click the image and post it on Instagram. When it comes to trips, instead of being excited about spending time with family, we care more about Check-In and getting that perfect image for display picture of Facebook. Before one actually goes and wishes his friends or family, posting a wish on FB is much more the IN THING. From the food one eats to the time one goes to sleep, everything is on Facebook.

If we talk about a schedule of a person it goes like this. He wakes up and checks his phone which is just lying beside him. Even during the breakfast, he is eating with one hand and using his phone with other. In the office, he remains in front of his Desktop/Laptop all day. Even if he goes to a party at night, he makes sure that everyone on social media knows where he is partying. But, the sad part is during all this, he started his day alone with the phone and will end his day sleeping beside his phone, again all alone. The sad part here is that he can live alone with a smartphone for weeks but, he can’t live with his friend for a day without a smartphone.

The Internet is one of the biggest achievement of mankind. It has done wonders which could never be imagined. The very same Internet which was helping us to remain in contact is now indirectly responsible for making us alone.  No doubt, we have 1000’s of a friend on Social Media but, we don’t have one friend to talk about our problem. We can spend watching YouTube all day long but, we can’t watch a single movie with our family.

Technology has its own advantage and disadvantages. The question is how to use it. At the end, it is you who can make technology a boon or boom. Think about it. And before I wrap up this article, last question – Does technology make us more alone? What’s your take ?
